In the future, water is controlled by international corporations. One of their dams has withered Memo Cruz’ village in Mexico, where he scans the web with his homemade radio and dreams of leaving town. One night he accidentally hears conversations of security forces that protect the dam from ‘Aqua-Terrorists,’ drawing a strike by a remote-control bomber that destroys his house, killing his father. Memo leaves for Tijuana where he meets Luz, who connects to the net via nodes implanted in her body and downloads memories to sell as stories. An anonymous client buys all the memories she has of Memo and asks for more. She helps Memo get nodes so that he can find a job as a “sleep dealer” in a factory where workers connect to the net and control robots working across the border, frequently toiling until they collapse. When Luz’ mystery client reveals himself, the world may change forever.
